Historic Downtown Parsons was recognized a few years ago as a National Great American Main Street Award Winner for the revitalization work that has occurred.
During that time, an organization focused on the promotion of activities, events, and business, Downtown Parsons, Inc., won three Governor's Awards of Excellence for marketing, programs, and business support through the Kansas Main Street Program. In part due to state program reorganization, Downtown Parsons, Inc. merged with the Parsons Chamber of Commerce.
Today it is now a recognized committee of the Chamber and continues to make improvements in an expanded area downtown. An original committee of the Downtown program, the Design Committee, is still active as a sub-committee of the Parsons Chamber of Commerce.
The downtown district maintains a more than 92% occupancy rate with a variety of shops including gifts, jewelry, cards, women's clothing, office supplies, computer sales and service and several fine dining choices. The area boasts two unique coffee shops and an old fashioned soda fountain and arcade.
