Lockwood History

Lockwood's history began in 1881 as a settlement of three rival towns by three separate men in the present-day area. By 1883, the three settlements came together via a compromise by founders William J. Davis, William Taggart, and Titus Eldridge, and the town was incorporated as the Village of Lockwood. The town was named in honor of J.E. Lockwood, the general-passenger agent of the Kansas City, Fort Scott and Gulf Railroad, which ran through the area.
