El Dorado Springs History

El Dorado Springs (commonly referred to as El Do) was established in 1881 near a natural spring by brothers Nathaniel and Waldo Cruce. The two attempted to capitalize on a claim that the local spring water had medicinal powers, and, thus, named the town after the legendary city of gold, El Dorado. The town's Founder's Day Picnic has taken place every year since 1885 and stands as the largest attraction of the year.
