Estes Park History
The Estes Park community was founded by, and named after, Joel Estes in 1859. The town was the site of the organization of the Credit Union National Association, which began an important milestone in the history of American credit unions. Estes Park's historic Stanley Hotel was also responsible for inspiring author Stephen King to change the locale for his novel, "The Shining," from an amusement park to a hotel.
