Lovington History

Lovington was founded in 1908 by Robert Florence Love of Palo Pinto County Texas. Love was appointed the town's first postmaster in the same year, and the town's growth increased over the next several years with amenities such as a public water works, local and long distance telephone service, a steam laundry, two churches, a movie house, a grade school, a high school, and a host of shops. Lovington was officially incorporated in 1918.

Today, high school football plays a big role in the Lovington community. The Lovington High School Wildcats have won a total of 18 state football championships, with six of those coming since 2000 (2000-01, 2004, 2009-11). Lovington is also the home town of NFL football star Brian Urlacher.
